Class Description

Ballet-
 A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses.  Ballet is the basis of all dance forms.  Here students will learn the proper technique and body placement for all forms of dance.  Set to classical types of music, ballet is the most regimented form of dance. Dress code for this class is black leotard (any style), pink tights, and pink ballet shoes.  Please no wraps, skirts, shorts, etc. with the exception of the teen/adult ballet class.

Jazz-
A more modern style of dance, this class consists of a warm up, across the floor technique and a dance routine.  Dancers will learn body movement, flexibility, turns, leaps and kicks.  To excel in jazz dance, the dancer must master ballet technique because it consists of slower movements that strengthens body and improves balance. Jazz dancers' strong and sharp movements are aided by ballet technique.  Dress code for this class is any type or style of dance wear attire….jazz pants, exercise shorts or capris, form fitting camisole style tops, crop tops, leotards, etc. and jazz shoes.  Please no baggy t-shirts, pajama pants, or excessively baggy clothing.  We need to see how the body is moving in order to make corrections.

Tap-
Students will learn rhythm, musicality and timing.  Set to upbeat music this form of dance is one of the most enjoyable for new dancers. Dress code for this class is the same as for jazz class. Shoes are oxford style lace up black tap shoes for ages 7 and up, or black patent tie style shoe for the 6 and under combo classes.

Lyrical-
An interpretive style of jazz dance usually done to slower music with a strong ballet focus.  Dress code for this class is the same as for jazz class. Shoes are dance paws/foot thongs or jazz shoes.

Hip Hop-
A freestyle form of dance usually seen in music videos and on tv.  Hip hop incorporates all the latest dance moves.  Set to R & B and rap music, this form of dance is very popular with the teens.  Dress code for this class is any style of pant or short that is comfortable to dance in and any style shirt. No jeans or skirts please.

Creative Dance-
A combination of jazz, tap, and ballet, this class gives the new dancer a solid introduction to our dance program.  Children will learn rhythm, coordination and dance movement through creative props and fun music. Dress code for this class for the tiny dancer is the same as for jazz class.

Breaking-

Breaking is a street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement among youths. It is normally danced to pop, funk or hip hop music, often remixed to prolong the breaks, and is a well-known hip hop dance style. A breaker, b-boy or b-girl refers to a person who practices breaking.
